Hank Malone

In Albuquerque, New Mexico

i walked up to this coke machine
on the corner of eubank and menaul
it had 10 buttons
offering 10 choices
after i deposit my 75 cents
the choices were
christ, buddha,muhammad,
marx, freud, shakespeare,
opium, clarity, money,
& coke
i just stood there, staring.

HANK MALONE read poetry onstage with cleveland legend, d.a. levy, in the late 1960's, and has been writing and publishing ever since. Malone also nursed Charles Bukowski through the murderous bowels of many college -class readings in the 1970's, dutifully trotting behind The Great Man with a 12-pack of Bud.
